Walking into Dave’s workshop was like arriving at Smart Car Heaven – I’ve never seen so many Smarts in one place at the same time!
Dave’s enthusiasm and passion was contagious – I was more than okay to leave my car with him knowing that I could trust him.
My Smart-for-two Coupe was due for a minor service – I dropped vehicle off at 10am, Dave emailed me within two hours to seek approval on a couple of extra items that should be attended to, and car was ready to be picked up by 1:30pm.
Great customer service, fast and efficient, kept me informed and price blitzed anything previously charged at Mercedes-Benz.

As usual David has done a great job. Years after replacing the engine in my old 450 he has carried out a great service on the 451 and got me out of hole with his loan car. Not only a great technician who knows everything about Smarts, but a great guy to boot.
David is a lovely guy, full of detailed knowledge and the passion for Smart cars is obvious. His work is deliberate, accurate and professional. If you ask him a question on the Smart, be prepared with a chair and a cut lunch though, just saying. I fully recommend his work to anyone with a Smart.
Having travelled from Hobart on the Spirit to Melbourne on-route for a long drive to Alice Springs, a gear shift error saw me find David and Smart Car Auto Tech. He was on the case and got me back on the road with a full C service and replaced a bunch of parts in less than 12 hours. Utterly saved the day and my travel plans. Can’t recommend David enough. So good to find someone with utter confidence because they know what they are doing and what they are dealing with, someone passionate, fully keeping you informed along the way – and I got to ride back to the train station in the SCAT-1 of his, which really made my day.

This is definitely the place to go if you want your SMART looked after by a specialist who is thorough and knows the SMART Car car inside out. I took my newly acquired, second hand SMART to Smart Car Auto Tech once I realised these cars have specialist servicing need and idiosyncrasies, not obvious to the local garage. Am so glad that I did as David was able to tweak and tune all sorts of things that needed attention. He was also full of useful advice on how to get the most out of this car. The cost of servicing was competitive and my car came home running beautifully. So I can thoroughly recommend using to Smart Car Auto Tech.

Well firstly, thank you so much for answering my email so promptly & thoroughly, it is such a relief to find someone in this country who actually has an intimate knowledge of the Smart. I was starting to curse myself for buying something that I thought I knew a lot about, but in reality, it has become apparent, that I don’t. To have some support of some kind, even if it is in Melbourne, is so reassuring.
Secondly, I am absolutely ecstatic to be able to report that your suggestion seems to have worked. I must admit to scepticism when I first read your advice, but after trying it twice ……. I can boast a 100% success rate (I am not game to repeatedly push my luck at this stage.)
Mate, the relief that washed over me was almost overwhelming !
I guess the question now is, how long can this quick fix last ? Is there anything I can do to help, such as going berserk with WD40 on the transmission or clutch plate etc ? Will the car be driveable if the clutch lets go ? Software updates do not help the problem at all (in preference to replacing the clutch ?)
Anyway, thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my email, it is very rare for people to do something for nothing in this day & age. I can assure you that it is deeply appreciated & will not be forgotten. I can see why you have such loyal & satisfied customers now.

I met Dave in 2008 and the passion he has for the SMART says it all, he is meticulous in what he does, no job is too big or small, his knowledge and understanding on these little treasures is first class, his customer service is the best I could see as he takes the time to listen and understand what the customers need and wants. His pricing is the best in Australia, you will not find another mechanic as good and the best price on service, I can speak as I know what Mercedes Benz charge for just the basic service and knowing Dave to do a first class job at a fare price.
I could not recommend Smart Car Auto Tech enough and is the best way to go for your Smart Fortwo Smart Roadster.

I sent an email requesting info about getting my Smart Car serviced, having found out about this business online. I got a prompt, polite reply with details of appointments available. When another spot opened up sooner David emailed to let me know and squeezed me in at the new time – on a Saturday!
From the moment we arrived we felt very welcome, and it was obvious that mechanic David is passionate about Smart cars! Rather than the hard sell, he asked for our experiences with the car and other repairers, before sharing his own experiences and history with us. We couldn’t have been happier leaving our car in his capable hands. He gave us a time when the car would be ready, and we got a call just before that time to confirm that it was done. He explained all the service in terms even I could understand (my knowledge of cars extends to colours and number of wheels!) as well as showing us the parts that had been replaced.
David is very friendly, helpful, honest and genuine – and clearly cares about his customers and the cars in his care. Definitely highly recommended!
This is a commendation and thank you letter for the work you’ve done on our smart roadster. For years, there had been an issue with the clutch that official dealer/service centre had been unable to resolve. The service centre themselves suggested that I replace the entire clutch (at a significant cost) to resolve the issue. While that issue existed, the car was quite a chore to drive in extremely slow moving traffic, and would judder when put into reverse and driven slowly.
During the last service at SmartCarAutoTech, you managed to recalibrate the clutch and resolve the issue completely. The car now drives like a dream under all conditions. Many thanks, David. Your expertise and attention to detail is exemplary.
